I have been totally smitten with this pattern lately. I picture it all finished and blocked layed out over a crisp white bedspread, as a Coverlet. Oooh…ahhhhh….

A Bed spread may seem like an odd knit during the cusp of summer but someone’s Hubby likes it frigid in the bedroom at night. Bbbbrrrrrr….. This is the perfect (AND prettiest!) compromise.

It is a nice “mindless” knit and is done on size 10′s, so you see you’re progress quickly before getting bored with the pattern. Only problem…I’ve ran out of yarn. I hate it when that happens! If only I had little “sheepy” friends roaming around my back yard, who could help me with that dilemma.

I’ve finally finished up a project I started early last week. I did some patchwork out of some Asian scraps that I used on my cousins place mats for her wedding anniversary early this year.

I thought these same prints would look awesome as a baby blanket.
a very cool, chic baby blanket.

the reverse side is a supple, lofty minky fabric.

have you all heard of Minky?
if not, it is a luscious billowy fabric that does actually mimic that of a mink-type softness and warmth. although, no animals were forcefully volunteered in the Minky’s manufacturing process.
100% Polyester, baby!

I quilted the blanket so it has a loftiness to it but is still a nice lightweight blanket.
I think it would also look awesome as a wall hanging or even as a centerpiece on the dining table.

I really enjoyed working on it and it turned out so gorgeous, that I am once again, broken up over passing it along to someone else.
but I know it will be truly loved by whomever buys it.

I’ll have it listed in my shop later today along with some extra photos.

I finally finished the small list of unfinished projects that were taunting me from my sewing room.
it doesn’t help matters when the sewing room is “on the way” to the laundry room. so, I get struck with that feeling of guilt every time I pass by.

I’m adding some crocheted items to the shop as well as another Onesie and a stroller blanket.

ooooh, the stroller blanket…..
I almost wept as I cut that adorable Hopscotch fabric into 4 inch squares! I picked it up at a local antique store and I fell in love with it the second I saw it.
one drawback to vintage fabric though…..very fragile!
the first stitch I made, the stitches were a little too close together and they ended up perforating the fabric and the poor old relic just fell apart. it was sad.

but I finally got the stitches to the right length and ended up free-quilting the top for extra stability.

cute, cute, cute.
almost makes me wish I had my own baby on the way to use it for.
okay.

I spotted an absolutely beautiful baby blanket over at posie gets cozy and I made it my mission to conquer it. I am pretty much horrible at blankets….(think about it, people, how many ripple afghans have I started? and how many have I finished and posted here??) I have always stuck to mostly scarves, hats and the occasional baby item, such as booties or a poncho. I don’t know what it is about blankets, but I just tend to steer clear of them.
when I read Alicia’s pattern for her Tiramisu blanket, I decided….I can do this! her pattern directions are way easy to follow, which is a major plus for me. (if I can’t read your pattern, it just ain’t gonna happen, no matter how cute the project is.)
the blanket only took two days to make, interrupted by a full day of drying time, thanks to Zander! long story short, I’ll try to remember not to place my coffee right next to me on the arm of the couch while I crochet. (live and learn!)
Alicia used a chocolate brown ribbon on her blanket, but I had this organza stuff laying around, so it’s what I used. not sure what I’ll end up using yet. this will be a gift for a friend of mine who is due in August, and expecting a girl. I’ll have to wait and see what her nursery colours are going to be….

this was a fun, easy project and it’s definitely broken me in, as far as blankets go. now, I’m finding myself “google-ing” crochet blanket patterns to try! (ah…Google, second only to flickr!)I think my favourite part of this blanket is the adorable bow tied in the corner.(how irresistible is that?!)
I really love the way it turned out and feel quite accomplished, having actually “finished”it.

so now,……. I will take a “bow”.

w.i.p update…I’m making quite a bit of progress on my ripple afghan. I’m actually considering keeping it a little short so it can be a throw instead of a bed cover. during the summer months, you dress so skimpily and at night when the temps drop, something like this would be nice to throw over your lap while watching the tube.
I may put a trim all around the perimeter of the throw when I’m done…haven’t decided yet.

work in progress…my very first afghan. I used a
Random Stripe Generator program. I put in the colors I wanted to use and this is the pattern I ended up going with. I still have about 139 rows to go.
the red stripes were actually an afterthought, when I found a skein of red in a bag under my side table. I just hope I like it when I’m finished. I’ll keep you posted…
meanwhile, I have finished the scarf that I started on at the beginning of this month. as soon as I get a good pic of it, I’ll post it. it was originally meant for my sister because she loved the yarn and said it would make a great scarf. but upon finishing it, I’ve decided I cannot part with it. what a sister I am, ‘eh? that, along with the fact that she didn’t think the finished scarf was long enough. I told her I’ll buy a couple more skeins and whip one up for her… between afghan rows, of course!
