bring it on, winter…

it’s certainly chillier out there these days but not quite to the point where I don’t feel like I look ridiculous wearing my winter gloves.

last fall, I wore my vintage car coat that has 3/4 length sleeves and when I did wear gloves with it, I still had a patch on my wrists that was bare. (and therefore chilly.)
so I made my own fingerless gloves for this non-defined ‘tween season.

they have a long wrist so they keep your forearm nice and warm. but they’re fingerless to allow you to still use your hands with ease.

I developed my own pattern with this adorable buckle and vintage button embellishment.

this pair in oatmeal will be up in the shop later today.

I’d love some feedback on these, as well. what colors are your favorites?
are there any fall/winter items you would like to see in my shop?

p.s Zoe took the top picture! I thought she did an excellent job! she looked so adorable squinting into the viewfinder of my ginormous Nikon DSL! (I think I have a little photographer in the making!)

a date with fall…

I have been making an honest effort.
I want to like Fall and I want to like Winter.
especially, after hearing all your great responses to the Great Bitch Fest of 2007!

putting all of my (very logical) reasons aside, I just can’t see myself getting by the next several months with this much animosity and anguish bottled up inside me.

I set up a play-date for myself with my arch-enemy, Fall and I tried to let down all the barriers I have put up around me for all of these years.

These are some of the “highlights” from our play-date. I will treasure them and look upon them often so that I can remind myself that Fall’s really not all that bad!

I really can’t argue with the beauty and grace of the falling leaves……

and the wonderment and pure joy on my children’s rosy little faces, as they skip through the leaves….

But I still want to cry when I say “goodbye” to my beloved friend, as he quickly kisses the horizon at only 4:30 pm…..

But overall, I enjoyed soaking it all up. relishing in the moment and only focusing on the joys of the season, with the ones that I love……

I only hope Fall can take it easy on me during his stay this year. That way Winter won’t seem so harsh when he comes around to visit!
I am, after all, only human.
And I have very weak lungs…..

still, there may be hope yet.

autumn crisp, in the air and in the kitchen…

I am a summer girl, through and through.
every year, as summer fades away and autumn’s crisp air flows in through the windows, I am saddened.
I say, “goodbye” to my tan.
“goodbye” to my tanktop drawer.
and the cute little bottle of sunscreen on my keychain.

the one thing I do relish in when autumn arrives, is BAKING!
I fill up the kitchen with fragrant aromas and the warmth of the oven.
ahhhh…..
baking bliss.

so be prepared for lots of baking posts this season.
I’ll be brimming with them.
I already have a list compiled in my Rolodex ~~brain~~ of all the recipes I want to share.

nothing says “autumn” like apple crisp!
my neighbor just brought over fresh apples right from the orchard and after the kids had their way with them, I made an easy crisp with the remainder of them.

recipe here.

start by peeling the apples.

core the apples.

and slice.

throw in a bowl…

and toss with some lemon juice.

put apples in a buttered 8″ square casserole pan or deep pie dish.

measure out dry ingredients.

cut in the stick of butter and set aside.

sprinkle apples with cornstarch…

and cinnamon-sugar.

toss to coat apples.

cover apples with topping.

place casserole in a 350F oven for 40 mins.
or until topping is crisp and brown and filling starts to bubble.

enjoy warm with your favorite autumn drink.

and pssst…….

it’s even BETTER with a scoop of ice cream or with heavy cream poured on top.
and if you’re extra good at lunch, you can have this for breakfast!
